Adventure On Every Block- City: The Animation (Trailer)

Life in the city is bustling, bright, and can be hectic at times. Another trailer for City: The Animation was released, and it looks like it’s going to easily capture all those feelings. The trailer didn’t share much of an actual plot and moved on delightfully chaotic vibes alone. It was colorful and busy; each scene packed to the brim with fast paced action. It felt like walking past apartment windows getting a brief glimpse into the lives of strangers. City: The Animation somehow feels like it’s going to be hectic, funny, and cozy all rolled up into one anime. It already feels like a refreshing summer hit!

City is a manga created by Arawi Keiichi who also wrote Nichijou a classic in the slice of life comedy genre. From the moment I saw the animation. I noticed Arawi’s distinct art style and knew City: The Animation was going on my summer watch list. The thick dark lines and vivid saturated colors breathe life into this exciting world that’s been created. For some reason the yellow especially stands out to me in every scene.

City: The Animation shows off some of my favorite Arawi bits such as arial maneuvers no normal human should just be able to do, and awkward encounters. All Arawi’s awkward encounter bits are too real especially the one seen in the trailer. A girl is filming herself and becomes embarrassed when her roommate catches her. As a youtuber I too am embarrassed when someone walks in on me while recording, and it’s not even a secret.

My favorite part of the trailer is the way it changes character perspective. All the stories connect somehow before picking a new character to follow. In one scene a baseball is hit and a character that wasn’t in the original baseball scene catches it easily introducing the audience to a new character perspective. It flows effortlessly. I was impressed by the pacing of the whole trailer. I want to know how these characters are all going to fit together in the show.

I’m glad that this time it looks like most of the main cast are adults doing their best to find adventure in their city instead of getting stuck in the mundane. It speaks to me more as a young adult than watching teens do things in the city. Though it looks like the age ranges vary between characters.

I’ve looked for nods to Nichijou in the trailer and so far, I haven’t noticed anything. I wonder if there is any chance of the stories crossing over or if they’re separate entities. I’d like to see a Nichijou goes to the city crossover episode.

City: The Animation feels like it’s going to bottle up all the moments of life you wish would last forever. You can get lost in the streets of this city on July 6th, 2025. I can’t wait to start exploring!
