Coming home to house chores after a long day feels like a second job. During the week, it’s easier to take a look at the dishes in the sink and make the mental note of loading the dishwasher tomorrow. For Tatsu, home care is his full-time job, and he takes it very seriously. Shopping, cooking, and cleaning can be just as perilous as working for the Yakuza in Tatsu’s eyes. This house husband is telling new stories and promoting them with an anime trailer.
The Way of the House Husband’s 17th volume was released and is currently available for purchase in Japan. Fingers crossed it gets translated soon, so fans can continue the unconventional adventure of daily life from another perspective. Tatsu’s daily grind used to include leaving bruises; now he’s checking fruit for bruises at the supermarket. He’s an ex-Yakuza member right where he wants to be thanks to the help of his wife, Miku. Holding onto the Yakuza work ethic, Tatsu works hard and won’t forgive himself if a spec of dust is left on the floor at the end of the day.
An anime trailer was released on YouTube alongside the announcement of the 17th volume. The trailer is in Japanese with no English subtitles as of this article’s publication. Retelling the basic plot points of the story so far, I think the trailer works for getting new readers interested in this story that portrays the quiet life when crime stops paying. The Way of the House Husband trailer doesn’t seem to contain any dates or announcements for a new anime season, which is a shame. The anime contains two seasons that left fans mildly disappointed as it didn’t feel entirely animated. It was more like moving pictures that fans compared to a slideshow with mild animations. It’s a shame. I think Way of the House Husband has a funny, unique premise and gets written off because of the anime’s rougher animation. The good news is that the new trailer features more motion and was animated by the studio Rising Force.
More than a promotion for the new Way of the House Husband volume, the animated trailer celebrates Shinchosha’s Bunch Comics 25th anniversary. To celebrate, Bunch Comics is holding an art exhibit at Gallery Zenon in Tokyo, from June 13 to July 5, 2026. 25 manga artists were chosen to draw new artwork to display at this exhibit. Way of the House Husband’s Kosuke Ono will not only be submitting original artwork but will also be at the exhibit for signings. As always, I’m hopeful that the merch from this event will not remain exclusive and that fans overseas might get a chance to purchase some. At least see the new artwork.
I am personally over the moon to see Worrick, Nicolas, and Alex’s characters from the manga Gangsta by Kohske on the exhibit’s promotional material. Gangsta has been on and off hiatus as the author Kohske has endured health complications. Recently, it’s been confirmed that she will be resuming Gangsta, and a new chapter will release on July 3rd, 2026. I’m excited for her return to the world of Gangsta, and I hope being part of the exhibit helps Kohske promote her new chapter. I also hope she has fun with it!
Way of the House Husband manages to turn everyday tasks into a high-stakes adventure where failure is not an option. It almost motivates you to take a Sunday afternoon to deep clean. I think my favorite scenes include Tatsu making elaborately cute lunches. Dive into the manga or give the unique anime a try. What always seems to be at the top of your chore list?
