Nine cyborgs once again don iconic yellow capes to protect humanity. It takes a cyborg to defeat a cyborg, but this time it looks like the bad guys received a major upgrade. 009 and the rest of the team know it’s not about how flashy your abilities are; it’s all about the humanity still in your heart. Watch a new Cyborg 009 story unfold with all the flair of the beloved original.
Cyborg 009 Nemesis will officially be airing on several streaming sites in Japan starting July 19th, 2026. Three thirty-minute episodes will all be released at the same time. Two of the official streaming sites include Hulu and Amazon Prime, which have me crossing my fingers that we see a release with English subtitles soon. There are several trailers currently available in Japanese on YouTube. The last time Cyborg 009 saw an animated release was 2017, so I’m personally thrilled to see the team back in action. Cyborg 009: Nemesis has the 00 cyborg team fighting a new team of 9 that I assume are a new Black Ghost project. This team of evil is led by the Cyborg Graviton, who can control gravity. The powers already seem more advanced than those of Joe-Cyborg 009- and his team, who typically wield more classic weapons and technology. The Nemesis team no longer thinks the original team can bring peace to humanity, though I doubt they have any plans to bring peace themselves. It feels like the 00 Cyborg team may be fighting for their own safety this time. Joe and his team may have metallic parts, but their hearts beat like any humans, and that’s the key to their true strength.
Fans online have been unsure how they feel about the redesign of Jet-002 in Nemesis. Jet is shown with his iconic orange hair in this series, but he’s missing the large nose that most fans think made him unique. Now he looks more generic, and I think part of that may have to do with the rigid, realistic style most of the newer Cyborg 009 shows have decided to go with. Previously, and possibly most popularly, the 2001 Cyborg Soldier used a cartoonish look even for anime. This isn’t the first time Jet has received a redesign, as the two other 3D shows -Re: Cyborg and Cal of Justice- make Jet blonde as well as change his nose. At least this time, he reads a tad more like Jet. Hopefully, they keep his hot-headed temper.
The 00 Cyborgs have fought plenty of other superpowered cyborgs, but something feels different this time with the Nemesis Cyborgs. To me is feels like this may be a story of new technology and ideals versus old. The light-up armor of the Nemesis cyborgs feels more futuristic than the 00 team, who were once the height of technology themselves. This feels like a new era of technology, thinking it knows better, attempting to take over. This one feels like it’s going to be a nail-biter. I can’t wait to see what abilities Nemesis will bring and how the 00 Cyborg team will prove they’re the heroes humanity needs. What do you think of the 00 Cyborg redesigns?
