Magical girls are born of a wish and tasked with keeping the balance of the world by defeating the witches that plague it. Slashing their way through dungeons, defeating each foe until they find the witch resting at the heart. Magical girls may start working alone, but some slowly start small groups to make the burden of their task easier. Kyubey thought a certain outstanding group of magical girls would be perfect for a new adventure that involves a dragon. Puzzles & Dragons is hosting their first Puella Magi Madoka collaboration.
Players of Puzzles & Dragons will now be able to add Madoka Kaname, Homura Akemi, Mami Tomoe, Sayaka Miki, and Kyoko Sakura to their team through September 4th. There are a few special 8-star pulls that include Ultimate Madoka & Devil Homura and the enigmatic Kyubey. In order to obtain the characters, players must pull them using the Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica Super Godfest feature in the game. Each pull will cost 10 magic stones. Puzzles & Dragons has also implemented a new game mode, which I think works perfectly with this collab. In the new Expedition Dungeons, players can make a team and send them into a dungeon to explore on their own. After a certain amount of time, players can collect the rewards the team returns with. It makes me think of the witch labyrinths in the anime.
The game has quests and dungeons themed around the world of Puella Magi Madoka. There is a mission called Dessert Witch Descended, which I can only guess will be themed after Charlotte, possibly the most iconic witch of Puella Magi Makoda. There’s even a special dungeon that will give players the Kyubey title when completed. You brought the magical girls into this world when you pulled them, so the title fits.
This collaboration coincides with the release of the new movie Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising, releasing August 28th, 2026, in Japan. This movie has been highly anticipated by fans, taking 13 years to make, plus being delayed from February to August. I’m sure some fans held their breath until they were finally able to sit in their theater seats and watch the title card appear.
With the release of Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie -Walpurgisnacht: Rising, I’m expecting to see a lot of collabs to go along with it. The film should be coming to the US this year (2026), and I think it would be a good Halloween film given the witches and its darker tone. I like how creative Puzzles & Dragons have gotten with the collab using magical girls to introduce a whole new game mode. Are you going to participate in this collaboration?
